Here is a quick summery of the recent activity in the web 2.0 world, well, things I found to be most interesting or most significant in this space.
Favorit is the answer to the problem of reading feeds without being able to comment. No more! At Favorit you can now read all your favorite feeds and take part by commenting without leaving the site. fav.or.it is also a blogging platform that lets you write your own blog posts.
TokBox is a cool new website that lets you create a video chat with no software downloads. It’s quite innovative and Sequoia Capital invested $4 million into the project. User feedback has been great.
Voodoovox is a website building a voice ad network or “in-call” advertising. They started years ago making automated systems for radio stations but now they are expending. Honestly, I think listening to ads on the phone is the last thing I want to do.
SpeedDate brings live speed dating online. It lets users join speed dating sessions online using a webcam and go on 3-minute “dates” with potential matches. You don’t waste time, make quick judgments, and vote Yes or No for further contant at the end of your session. It’s a great idea well executed.
Stixy makes it real simple to share files online and it also lets you collaborate in various other ways. You can create tasks, appointments, files, photos, notes, and bookmarks on your Stixyboards, and then share with friends.
PoliticalBase has recently launched, providing bi-partisan commentary, information and coversation about US Politics. It is a user-powered online community founded by former CNet founder Shelby Bonnie. Good timing before the 2008 elections.
Mixaloo lets you create mixtapes online and share them with friends via email or embed them on any website. They have over three million songs in their library and you can create your own mixes and put them on myspace or facebook, etc.
Kindersay is a website build for preschool learning. Parents spend a ton of money on education and this website offers Free Online English Video Activities for Preschool Children.
Zolve is an online real estate referral network. It’s a social network for real estate practitioners and service providers can make connections and generate referrals between real-estate professionals. A broker can get 25 to 30 percent of a commission if she refers a customer to another broker.
HateBook is well developed and designed FaceBook parody site that lets you vent your frustrations and list everything you hate. This ant-social site, themes in evil red instead of the cool blue, contains most of FaceBook functionality and it even provides Google Map integration.
