Interesting Data Displayed on World Maps
Understanding the World via Map Images
Some information or data is best represented graphically on a Map. If you are ever wondering how data like wealth, military spending, alcohol consumption, happiness, etc looks visually on a World Map than you might enjoy this post. It’s a collection of images of World Maps I collected from the internet. Feel free to add your image in the comments. Thanks!
House Prices Map

The most expensive housing stock per person in the world is in Europe, the cheapest in the African regions and Southern Asia despite taking into account that money goes further in these territories. Britain, with its non-stop housing boom, looks disproportionately large.
Toy Exports Map

China is the world’s biggest net exporter of toys and hogs the map like a vivid green giant.
Toy Imports Map

The United States (purple) is the world’s biggest net importer of toys, followed by the United Kingdom and Europe (red).

Wealth of Nations in year 2002 Map

In 2002, 500 years later, the cash has all moved west: 46 per cent of the wealth is in Western Europe and North America.
Military Spending

The United States was the world’s biggest military spender in 2002 and appears hugely bloated on the map, taking up 45 per cent of the world’s land mass. It spent $353 billion on weapons, out of a world total of $789 billion for arms.
War and Death Map

An estimated 172,000 war deaths worldwide occurred in 2002 across 80 territories. The Democratic Republic of Congo (darkest colour) recorded 26 per cent of the total.
Nine territories accounted for 7 out of 10 deaths. Burundi had the highest death rate related to war at 1.2 people per thousand of the total population.
HIV Prevalence Map

This map shows the distribution of all people between ages of 15 and 49 with HIV. In 2003, the highest HIV prevalence was in Swaziland, where close to four in every ten people, were HIV positive. All ten territories with the highest prevalence of HIV are located in central and southeastern Africa.
Alcohol Consumption in 2001 Map

The average Western European drinks over a third more alcohol than the average person in any other area on earth. Where there is practically no alcohol consumption is the reason for so many Middle Eastern countries not being visible on this map. Per adult, Ugandans drink the most alcohol, closely followed by Luxembourg, the Czech Republic and then Ireland.
Router Distribution Map

Interesting look on the digital world.
