Flash Photo SlideShows
Best Flash Based XML SlideShow for your Website
I covered JavaScript SlideShows previously because overall I prefer a JaveScript solution for a cool photo slideshow. Why restrict yourself to only the users who have Flash enabled? But, these days, most people have flash enabled and some people might want to know about available flash based slideshows. If you want a complete solution, check out AirTightInteractive’s SimpleViewer, PostCardViewer, and AutoViewer. These three flash image slideshows are amazing. SimpleViewer is a really neat customizable Flash image viewing application. AutoViewer is designed to display a linear sequence of images and captions while PostcardViewer is based on the real world metaphor of a set of postcards shuffled onto a surface. All of these are free so check them out.
If you are interested in looking at some code and perhaps creating your own Flash Slideshow take a look at Kirupa’s XML SlideShow that shows all the steps to create a Photo Slideshow Using XML and Flash with the source code provided. Flash Photo Album is another good tutorial. I also liked this backwards-compatible Flash slideshow with XHTML. If you don’t want to deal with any flash code but still want to make your own Flash Slideshow with your own images then take a look at this tutorial that teaches how to add a Flash-based Slideshow to your Website. Another option for a cool flash slideshow is the XML/SWF Slideshow.
For something really cool, check out Todd Dominey’s Flash slide show where you can get the source code for a really cool dynamic, cross-fading image loader used on The 2003 PGA Championship. This has been updated to a new Flash MX 2004 component named SlideShowPro, a complete photo gallery solution for Flash. But, SlideShowPro is not free, it costs $25. If you are looking for flash slideshow solutions that you can buy, check out monoslideshow, a Flash slideshow designed for maximum flexibility, whether you want to have a professional looking portfolio, or just an image rotator on your website. Also, look at XML Flash SlideShow v3 and XML Flash Gallery Component v2.0.
And, if you are a fan of Adobe FLEX, check out the TiltingPane and Displayshelf Component that can be used to display a faux-3d view of a list of items that could be your images or photos. It uses a number of flex and flash concepts and its behavior is similar to the CoverFlow visualization added to iTunes in version 7. Enjoy!

Good article. I recently downloaded several Simpleviewer flash templates to review them for photo display. I made a test voting gallery discussion on my forum. I wanted to evaluate these, as well as test out voting. Please check it out and vote so I can see how it’s working.
