Dove Evolution Campaign Video
Public Perception of Beauty

This is another interesting video I found on YouTube and it highlights the realities of our distorted perception of beauty. We are daily bombarded with images from magazines and billboards as examples of how people look and this commercial clearly shows that what you see is not necessarily the truth. This video demonstrates that you can really do amazing things with Photoshop and image/video editing software. It also shows that it doesn’t really matter how you look like in order to be in commercials or magazines because “they” can clearly change your look. Beauty is a combination of angles and curves and if you don’t have the “right” angles and curves, “they” can fix you up.
It’s sad that women starve and kill themselves to attain the look which is often completely fabricated unattainable beauty. While Dove, the company behind this video, emphasizes how the media industry is distorting beauty, they are a big participant of this process. Dove is owned by Unilever which owns Axe deodorant, a company which exploits women as sex objects who lust after men who wear Axe. Unilever also owns SlimFast, a product to keep you thin. Also the company owns Fair and Lovely, a cream that contains bleach and is used to whiten darker skinned women. Any comments?
