Free JavaScript Slideshow for your Website

If you need to create a JavaScript SlideShow for your website there are tons of codes available on the Internet for you to utilize. However, some certainly stand out because they follow web standards and use good libraries/code. Lots of people use Flash based solutions for slideshows but why restrict yourself to only the users who have Flash enabled? Also, some scripts out there are fully standard compliant which is important for accessibility and incapable in Flash. So, if you want to create a good JS slideshow on your website, than consider the following options:

If you are looking for a complete js slideshow solution, definitely check out couloir for a slick Flash-like photo slideshow implemented solely in Javascript, HTML, and CSS. The code is offered as-is so no support but its free. Next, smoothslideshow and smoothgallery are two great JavaScript slideshows created by Jonathan Schemoul. They both use mootools for simple and smooth cross-fading image slideshows. They are fast, standards compliant and use a great javascript library. If you like mootools, you might also want to check out slideshow which uses the javascript class to stream and animate the presentation of images. You should also look at Steven Chipman’s excellent Cross Fade Redux which uses unobtrusive DOM scripting and semantic markup to achieve its goals, and is somewhat less abusive of the CPU in FireFox.

If you are looking for a generator that will generate a JavaScript slideshow from your images, take a look at SlideShow v2.0 and barelyfitz slideshow wizard. Barelyfitz also has a non-generator JavaScript SlideShow with a lot of really great features. If you want to learn some code to possibly make your own custom JS SlideShow, take a look at Dynamicdrive’s Content Slider and Drop-In SlideShow. For more examples, look at JavaScript Source’s Basic SlideShow and increment slide that intelligently preloads images one at a time while the preceding image is being shown. Enjoy!
